Your first gym visit is much easier when you know what to expect. You do not need a perfect programme or peak fitness. To get started well, you need a few basics, a simple plan and a relaxed enough pace to get to know the equipment and the space.
WHAT SHOULD YOU BRING TO THE GYM?
For your first workout, you need clean sports shoes, comfortable clothing, a towel and a drink. Your phone can help you log exercises, but should not replace a clear plan.
If you are new to the gym, allow enough time for your first visit. At Athlete Gym, you can first try the space and equipment independently during reception hours.
WHAT SHOULD YOUR FIRST WORKOUT LOOK LIKE?
Start with a short warm-up and choose a few basic exercises for the larger muscle groups. On machines, first check the seat adjustment, body position and range of movement. Use a load that allows you to perform controlled repetitions.
Your first workout is not an endurance test. Its purpose is to help you get to know the environment, find suitable exercises and leave feeling confident about coming back.
- 5–10 minutes of light warm-up
- 4–6 basic exercises
- controlled movements without rushing
- a brief record of the settings and loads you used
HOW DO YOU BUILD A ROUTINE?
Two or three well-planned sessions a week are often enough for a beginner. Choose days you can realistically stick to, and avoid changing your programme every week.
As your technique and confidence improve, gradually add repetitions, load or more challenging exercises. If you are unsure about technique, ask a trainer for help.
